Obanikoro Will be Found Guilty Of ₦4.7bn EFCC
Following the challenge thrown at the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission by former Defence Minister for State, Sen. Musiliu
Obanikoro, to show evidence of his sons’ involvement in money
laundering, the commission said last night that it would not be
distracted but would do its job. The Head of Media and Publicity of
the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said last night that there was no need
for the commission to dissipate energy on a matter that was
straightforward and incontrovertible.
Musiliu Obanikoro Uwujaren challenged Obanikoro to come out of his
hiding and face the evidence before the commission in court so as to
prove his innocence and that of his children. Obanikoro’s challenge to
EFCC followed Tuesday raid on his Lagos home by operatives of the
commission, who carted away some property from the compound in the
absence of the former minister and his two sons, who have been under
its radar over alleged receipt of N4.7 billion from the office of the
National Security Adviser, Sambop Dasuki in 2014. The cash was
reportedly traced the two men- Babajide and Gbolahan-who are both
directors of a firm used in siphoning the funds from the Office of the
former National Security Officer, Sambo Dasuki.
An EFCC operative confirmed that the operation, which involved a crack
team of investigators from the commission, swooped on the expansive
compound of the former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana in
Parkview Estate in the early hours of Tuesday in search of vital
documents to nail him. The commission said the raid was in connection
with earlie.
