Indications have emerged that the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi may have stepped up plans to return to the Ekiti State Government House. We gathered that the former governor foot soldiers have begun underground moves by reviving abandoned political structures used during his first term and his failed re-election bid.
It was also gathered that trailer loads of food items meant to be distributed during Sallah were sighted in some Ekiti towns, a move said to be designed to launch the return bid of the Iyin Ekiti born Federal Minister. It would be recalled that the former governor lost his bid to be elected for a second term. Few days ago, Civil servants, students and artisans among others were also seen scrambling to have a share of food items such as rice, spaghetti, indomie, salt, sugar and condiments the former governor said he distributed in order to “prevent hunger and starvation”.
The former governor is said to be banking on the clampdown launched against the incumbent governor of the state, Ayo Fayose and his close associates by the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). It is believed that this will reduce the level of support the governor seems to be enjoying from the masses in the state.
Series of protest have been organized in the state recently with the latest on Thursday where a horde of placard-carrying protesters that comprised of party leaders in Fayemi’s All Progressives Congress, students, youth groups, artisans and other residents marched from the popular Adekunle Fajuyi park through Okeyinmi to Ijigbo Round-About describing the recent freezing of the personal accounts of Gov. Fayose in Zenith Bank as proper.
Party sources confided that series of protests have been lined up to show the decreasing level of acceptability of Governor Fayose. “though Fayemi has not informed anyone of us of his ambition but we have been seeing subtle moves from his people. He has been showing actions in the party affairs unlike before and we think that is suggestive”, the party source.
It would be recalled that Governor Ayo Fayose defeated then incumbent, Dr Fayemi in the government election held in Ekiti state in June 2014, stopping the governor from ruling for another four year term.
