Global Leadership Foundation based in New york, United States of America (USA) says most Nigerian leaders like their counterpart in other countries of the world indulge in corrupt practices because they fail to have strong foundation in character.
Rev. Gregg Johnson, Founder and President of the Foundation disclosed this in an interview with Journalists at Evangel Camp Okpoto, Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi state during a 5-day leadership conference for Leaders and Ministers of God.
With the theme,’Character in Leadership’,Rev. Johnson noted that leadership whether political or religious would destroy anyone whose character was not prepared for it.
According to him, as a leader becomes successful, your life will be pressured with a lot of temptations as well as admirations.
“But if your character is not deepened, all those pressures will be sold out and your life will be taken over by corruption. And you will begin to serve your own interest instead of the interest of the people, or organization you are called to serve.
“So, this the reason for the Global Leadership Training to help leaders discover the need for strong foundation in character as they are promoted in leadership”, he explained.
He said the issue of corruption in leadership was not peculiar to Nigeria but a global problem including USA but admonished leaders to imbibe the heart of humility and integrity by not serving themselves but the people.
He added that leadership is a position of trust and anyone occupying it should endeavor not to betray such trust.
For religious leaders, he said, “before God enlarges your ministry,He must first enlarge your character to support it”,hence, the Foundation focuses on preparing leaders for the enlargement.
Rev Johnson who was accompanied by the West Africa Coordinator of the Foundation, Rev. Stephen Wengam, Superintendent of Assemblies of God of New York USA,Dr Duane Durst and the Assistant Superintendent of Assemblies of God of New York USA, Rev. Bill Kirk, said the Foundation conducts leadership training throughout East and West Africa,India, Canada,USA and the entire world to help build a foundation for lasting leadership.
An Assemblies of God Church Pastor and Chairman,Ebonyi state Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN),Rev. Dr Emmanuel Nshi who was one of the participants said he learned much more than expected from the training and assured that having imbibed the teachings, they were going to domesticate it.
Another Participant and General Treasurer of Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rev. Vincent Alaje said the training was awesome as God had used the Resource persons to enrich them
