The Bailiffs of the Federal High Court (FHC), Kaduna division has week confiscated some of the New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN) Vehicles over failure to abide with the court ruling of 28th October, 2013 for non-payment of the pension areas of the pensioners over 15 years.
This was contained in a press release issued and signed by Mallam Idih Sule and Albert B. Iweka Esq, Chairman and Secretary respectively of the NNN branch of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners made available to our correspondent in Kaduna said the vehicles were confiscated because of the latter’s (NNN) inability to execute the FHC judgment.

It said despite the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), charge with the responsibility of administering pension to old pensioners by the federal government, reneged on its promise to settle the judgment sum, citing paucity of fund.

The press release stated that all the avenues used to settle the issue including the pensioners’ letter to the Attorney-General of the Federation and several ‘SOS’ to President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue for fiat and appropriate execution of the judgment was proved abortive as it was denied of and not attended to by both of them.

It could be recalled that in 2011, the retirees of the Newspapers (NNN) dragged the federal government and the company to court seeking the court’s declaration, that they were bona fide federal government pensioners, and prayed court to order the defendants to settle their current and accrued pension arrears.

It would also be recalled that the said judgment, which was made on the 28th October, 2013 was in favour of the applicants (retirees) but all efforts to ensure that the defendants obey the judgment of the court proved abortive.

New Nigerian Newspapers Ltd with its headquarter in Kaduna was taken over by the federal government in 1975 from the defunct Northern Region as its parastatal under the supervision of the federal ministry of information before it was returned to the 19 northern states in September, 2006
